MACABRE: This wedding cake had one guest close to fainting

Gruesome cakes seem to be the rage.

Earlier this month a bride's grandmother almost fainted at her wedding. No, she didn't marry the wrong guy. Natalie Sideserf made the wrong cake.

A cake-making expert from Austin, Texas in the US, she spent 40 hours creating the perfect cake for her horror movie buff husband to serve at their movie-themed wedding. Sideserf's icing skills were too much for her grandmother, who didn't take lightly to the lifelike severed heads of the bride and groom, complete with dripping blood (well, it was icing) and lifeless eyes.

''We were watching a horror movie, and I was always interested in sculpting lifelike cakes, especially the face, so I thought, 'How great would it be if I did our severed heads'?" Sideserf said. ''I wanted to do something a little goofy and funny, so when you cut into it, it had different colours," she said.

The cake, which was a complete surprise to all the guests, was topped with vanilla frosting and chocolate. The bride reported that everybody loved it, except for her grandmother, of course, though Sideserf said she did appreciate the enormous skill it took to make the cake.
