Snake slithers on car window scaring Eastern Cape teacher, son

A school teacher got the fright of her life when a snake appeared on her car windscreen while driving.

Vuyokazi Pakati, 41, was driving through the Mthentu Cuttings, near Mthatha, when the snake slithered across her windscreen, reported the Dispatch Online.

Her three-year-old son was a passenger in the car. Pakati controlled her panic, driving almost another kilometre before she could safely stop her car.

Once she had pulled over, she grabbed her toddler and fled her car. She flagged down a passing car for help.

"One of the men who came to assist tried to use a stick to remove the snake near the wipers, but it disappeared into the engine. Later they called the police," she told the publication.

Police spokesman Captain Mkhuseli Shakes Nqumama -- locally regarded as a snake expert -- and Constable Dan Tomodi, worked more than two hours to retrieve the snake. It was later identified as a harmless striped grass snake.
