The Gauteng education department is investigating claims that a Kagiso teacher allegedly leaked aspects of the Grade 11 life sciences district exam paper by writing them on a chalkboard.

Spokeswoman Phumla Sekhonyane said in a statement on Wednesday the teacher from Mandisa Shiceka High School, west of Johannesburg, allegedly wrote the scope of the exam questions on the board, and that the department took the allegations very seriously.

“We will also assess whether the affected learners need to rewrite the exam. If there is a need for that, the district has a back-up paper which will be written at the end of the exam period,” she said.
