The Kagiso community yesterday vowed to intensify its violent protests today until the Mintails mining company operating in the neighbourhood is shut.

Last week, residents took to the streets complaining about blasts from the mine, which they say, damage their houses.

On Friday, Mineral Resources Minister Susan Shabangu, Mogale City mayor Koketso Serane and Mintails management met angry residents. Shabangu said independent experts would investigate the blasts.

But when she said the mine would not be closed and that a solution would be found, there was a massive walkout.

"You must have scientific evidence that the mine isresponsible," she said.
