The Tshwane Metro Police Department will have its hands full today as parts of the city come to a standstill with the start of Oscar Pistorius's murder trial.

While no road closures are planned around the North Gauteng High Court, TMPD spokesman Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said Madiba, Palace and Paul Kruger streets would be affected by the trial.

"Motorists are advised to drive cautiously and to use alternative roads throughout the period of the trial," said Mahamba.

Tshwane spokesman Selby Bokaba said the southern side of Madiba and Palace streets would be cordoned off for media parking.

"We advise motorists to try and avoid the streets around the court, especially Madiba between 6am and 10am," Bokaba said.

The trial comes as the A Re Yeng bus service construction takes place, closing Paul Kruger street between Boom and Madiba streets until the end of next month.
