Country music princess Taylor Swift can certainly afford to never, ever get back together with any of her exes - especially if she keeps making obscene amounts of money.

The 24-year-old was the highest-earning musician in the past year, according to Billboard's Top 40 Money Makers list.

She raked in a cool R432-million from merchandising, branding and sponsorships (including Elizabeth Arden and Diet Coke), her highly successful Red Tour, physical and digital sales of her latest album, 22, and streaming royalties.

She topped the list in 2012 too. Madonna was the biggest earner in 2013.

But, despite the past three annual lists being topped by the female superstars, only two other women, Beyoncé and Pink, made it onto this year's top 10, and another, Rihanna, onto the top 20

There are only seven women on the list, with Celine Dion (R137-million), Miranda Lambert (R96-million) and Carrie Underwood (R86-million) rounding it off.

Swift's earnings were a bit more than those of fellow country star Kenny Chesney, who made about R356-million.

The musicians were ranked by earnings only in the US, calculated from touring, recorded music sales, publishing royalties, and revenue from digital music and video streaming.

Others in the top 10 were Justin Timberlake (R339-million), Bon Jovi (R317-million), The Rolling Stones (R283-million), Beyoncé (R263-million), Maroon 5 (R239-million), Luke Bryan (R238-million), Pink (R216-million), and Fleetwood Mac (R206-million).
