A five-year-old girl has allegedly been raped at her school by older boys, according to reports.

News24 said the girl’s father is outraged, and that the school had failed to immediately notify him.

The Grade R pupil was allegedly attacked by three Grade 2 boys on the Mitchells Plain school grounds, the Cape Argus reported.

The boys ordered the girl to hold onto a tree while they “did what they wanted to do”, while she waited for her transport home.

According to the newspaper, she told her teacher , but didn’t tell her parents. It was more than a week before they found out what had happened to their child, said the report.

Now the little girl is too scared to go back to the school and wants to be transferred, her father says, reports IOL.

The incident happened on March 4, but the school failed to notify the girl’s parents, the website said. Only during a conversation with her teacher on March 13 did the parents learn their child had allegedly been raped.

The girl’s father, who is not being identified in order to protect his daughter’s identity, said the school had “failed in its duties”.

The Western Cape Education Department said it is investigating the incident.
