Zoleka Mandela is a mother again - a little under four years after the tragic loss of her 13-year-old daughter Zenani.

In a statement yesterday, Nelson Mandela's granddaughter and her beau Thierry Bashala confirmed the arrival of their daughter Zanyiwe Zenziwe Bashala.

The new bundle of joy was born yesterday morning (11.20am) at Park Lane Clinic, the statement said. A year after Zenani's death, Zoleka also had to accept the death of her son Zenawe, who was born prematurely and died days after birth. Zoleka has had a bilateral mastectomy, overcome cancer and is recovering from her addiction to sex, drugs and alcohol.

"The biggest part of me died that Tuesday June morning. I kept thinking God should have taken me instead," she told the Sunday Times last year about Zenani's death.

Zindzi Mandela took to Twitter after the news, posting: "I'm excited about the birth of my granddaughter. Congratulations to Thierry & @ZolekaMandela".
