Cosatu boss Zwelinzima Vavi does not expect his comrades to re-impose his suspension at a special meeting of the central executive committee of the labour federation today.

Vavi, who went to his office at Cosatu House yesterday after months out in the cold, was in a jovial mood.

About 100 Cosatu and staff members converged outside the building to welcome him. The Johannesburg High Court nullified his suspension last week.

"I do not know of a decision to put me on suspension that will not be unfair and illegal," said Vavi.

He said he was willing to work with all Cosatu office bearers and held no grudges.

"I did not choose to work with them; congress elected us to work together. I hope there will be unity among us leaders," he said.

Vavi said he would continue to speak out.

"The Cosatu congress resolution said corruption has to be fought and I will not run away from doing that."

Vavi said he had not spoken about the public protector's findings on the "security upgrading" of President Jacob Zuma's Nkandla home because he was "not in office" when her report was released

The unions that support Vavi - Numsa, Fawu and Denosa - are expected to push for a special resolution at today's meeting that would confirm Vavi in office.

Vavi's opponents - Popcru, Nehawu and the NUM - who orchestrated his suspension, will propose that it be reimposed and press for a vote.

There are indications that Numsa, which has refused to campaign for the ANC in next month's general election, will be suspended from the labour federation.

Bad blood was apparent when those who support Vavi and those who want him out clashed in Durban on Sunday.
