Welcome to Maidenhead, Britain's Capital of Infidelity.

The commuter town on the Thames has been named Britain's top location for adultery - and it's all down to house prices

Just off the M4, and 50 minutes to central London on the frequent trains, Maidenhead epitomises prosperous, commuter-belt England. Its SL6 postcode boasts Britain's highest number of millionaires outside London, as well as Britain's highest house prices after the capital (the average property costs £450 000 (R7.9-million). The glorious Thames-side setting of its chocolate-box villages inspired Kenneth Grahame to create the characters of Toad and Mole.

But now SL6 is less Wind in the Willows and more Fifty Shades of Grey, thanks to its new reputation as Britain's infidelity capital. According to a new infidelity index, published by Illicit Encounters, Britain's largest "secret affairs" website, more of its 900000 members come from the Maidenhead area than from any other postcode in the UK - 1316 registered Encounters members live here, meaning two in 100 of the town's 64000 residents are having, or want, an affair.

Livingston, in West Lothian (a popular base for Edinburgh and Glasgow commuters), is second on the chart, with 1080 cheats. Farnborough in Surrey is third. The UK's most faithful town is Bournemouth, with only 70 affair-seekers, probably because many of its residents are elderly.
