A local travel book has been turned into a location-aware audio app.

App of the week

Platinum Road is a great new iOS and Android app featuring an hour of storytelling narrated by Radio 702's David O'Sullivan.

It is an extension of Peter Delmar's book The Platinum Road, featuring stories covering the N4 highway between Gauteng and Lobatse in Botswana and the N1 between Pretoria and Bela Bela.

The stories are automatically triggered by your location, at no additional data use, though users can also listen to the stories at the click of a button from elsewhere. The app is free.

Video

If you've never seen the Honest Trailervideo series, now would be a good time to start. Part of the Screen Junkies YouTube channel, the videos show what movie trailers would really say if they were completely honest. It's hilarious, brutal and, well, honest, such as describing Best Picture Oscar winner Gravity as ''a trip through the terrifying silence of outer space where the only sound you can hear is Sandra Bullock explaining the plot".

Mobile

A picture of online retailer Amazon's first, own branded smartphone prototype has popped up on the internet. Tech site BGR.com exclusively features the phone, which it claims will be released in the coming months and has a 3D display.

To have a 3D display, the phone will have six cameras: four in front and two at the back. It's rumoured to run on Amazon's Android software, Fire OS. The Wall Street Journal reports it will be released in June.

Instagram

The internet is teeming with pictures of lithe women, but one Instagram account is giving love to our curvier sisters. @plusmodelmag is the account of Plus Model Magazine that features gorgeous plus-sized women in great fashion, with many reposted images. The account has more than 25000 fans and can be found on Instagram.com/plusmodelmag.
