The National Union of Mineworkers has rejected Eskom's 5.6 percent wage increase offer, it said on Tuesday.
"We reject the three-year proposal and call on Eskom to meet the demands of our members," general secretary Frans Baleni said in a statement.
The union wanted a 12 percent salary increase across the board in a one-year agreement.
"NUM remains unshakeable on its demands and will never accept Eskom's insult. Our demands are legitimate and achievable.
"Our members are ill-treated and provoked by their employer simply on the basis that they are labelled essential services."
The union accused Eskom of not caring about the well-being of employees.
He said the parastatal refused to listen to employees, creating frustration in its industrial relations.
Eskom confirmed that its 5.6 percent offer was rejected.
"Our offer was rejected and now the process heads to the CCMA. That is the agreement between the parties," spokesman Andrew Etzinger said.
