Broken lifts force man to carry relative's body out of hospital

A man had to carry his elderly relative's body down four flights of stairs in a Mpumalanga hospital because the lifts were broken according to a report.

"There was no one to remove his body and the lifts did not work. Even the matron could not make a plan. The undertaker was waiting for us downstairs so I carried his body down by myself," family member Glen Laubscher told Beeld newspaper.

Joe Jacobson, 86, died in Rob Ferreria hospital on Saturday around 9.30am after a stroke.

Health department spokesman Dumisane Malamule told Beeld it would investigate the matter.
