Armed robbers attacked the home and family of international fugitive Czech Radovan Krejcir in Bedfordview, making off with guns, computers and a car.

His wife, Katerina Krejcirova, and sons were at home with a friend when the gang of five attacked the house early on Tuesday morning.

The gunmen accosted the family as they were asleep, tied them up with shoelaces and electrical cords and ransacked the house.

Police spokesman Colonel Noxolo Kweza said the gunmen broke into the house at 4am through the kitchen door.

She said they forced Krejcir's son, Dennis, into the bathroom and covered his head with a towel while the others were held in a bedroom.

"The gunmen stole a 9mm pistol, a revolver, ammunition, three cellphones and computers," Kweza said.

"Several fled the house in a car belonging to a woman who was there... Krejcir's son's girlfriend, while others escaped on foot."

Kweza said no one was injured in the attack and that no arrests had been made.

She said a case of armed robbery with aggravating circumstances was being investigated.

Krejcir's lawyer Piet du Plessis said the family were shaken by the attack.

"Fortunately, no one was injured. The matter is being taken care of," Du Plessis said.

"At the moment it seems like it was a typical house robbery. It doesn't seem, for now, as though anything sinister was behind this."
