Registrations for the 2014 Johannesburg Stock Exchange Investment Challenge Public Game started on Friday, offering a would-be investor the chance to win as much as R30000 in cash.

The game is aimed at giving anyone over the age of 18 with an interest in investment the opportunity to learn about the stock market in a risk-free environment.

The best-performing portfolio will win R30000, which will be deposited in the account of a stockbroker of the winner's choice.

Second prize is R20000 and third prize is R10000. This is only the second year in which a division of the JSE Challenge will be open to the general public.

The game starts on September 8, but contestants can register until the end of next month. The game runs until December 5.

Registration is R100. Investors can use the JSE's virtual trading platform free of charge for 30 days.
