Convicted child molester Moses Mulaudzi, 54, was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a seven year-old girl and an additional 15 years for three counts of sexual assault and four counts of compelling a child to witness a sexual offence.

Mulaudzi was a neighbour to the four girls in Munsieville, Krugersdorp, whom he sexually abused in 2011. The court found that he had lured the girls into his shack with sweets and money in order to sexually abuse them.

The High Court in Johannesburg, sitting in Palm Ridge, rubbished Mulaudzi’s claim that the four girls, all under the age of 12, had instigated the sexual activity with Judge Naren Pandya labeling Mulaudzi a “manipulative witness”.

During sentencing on Friday, Pandya, noted that although the girls had gone to Mulaudzi’s shack voluntarily because they trusted him, he had betrayed this trust.

Pandya said that Mulaudzi appeared to have taken advantage of the children’s destitute circumstances in order to sexually abuse them.

“They used to go [to his shack] for sweets and money and [Mulaudzi] took advantage” of this Panday observed.

The judge said that if it were not for a neighbour who had noticed the suspicious activity, Mulaudzi would have gotten away with his crimes.

Pandya also noted that despite the seven year-old girl not having incurred physical injuries during her rape, she “no doubt incurred psychological trauma”.

Judge Pandya also made reference to the Constitutionally protected rights of woman to be able to move and live freely without having these rights violated by men.
