Many of the characters that Lauren Morelli writes about for the hit series Orange is the New Black are lesbian - but, until recently, that was all there was to it.

But now the UK's Daily Mail, quoting celebrity gossip site TMZ, reports that the show's lead writer has filed for divorce from her husband, Steve Basilone - because she has realised that she is a lesbian.

The couple have been together for six years but five months into their two-year marriage Morelli fell into the arms of the show's star, Samira Wiley, who plays Poussey Washington in the series.

The newly attached couple reportedly pitched up as each other's date at a party at the Chateau Marmont and left hand-in-hand.

Basilone, also a screen writer, reportedly often describes his soon-to-be-ex as his "best friend", and documents seen by TMZ show that they have already divided their assets.

The Mail Online said Morelli wrote on Mic.com that in writing scenes for Orange is the New Black in which Piper and Laura fall in love again, she found "a mouthpiece for my own desires and a glimmer of what my future could look like".
