Two Hermanus men were arrested in the Eastern Cape yesterday while allegedly transporting 600 poached perlemoen worth R800000 to Durban.

The men, aged 20 and 28, are from Zwelihle, also the home of another alleged smuggler who was arrested in King William's Town two weeks ago with perlemoen worth more than R1-million.

Police in Bhisho made yesterday's arrests after seeing liquid dripping from a bakkie with Cape Town registration plates.

They confiscated 56 plastic bags of perlemoen hidden under blankets and empty crates.

Detectives and fishery control officers counted the perlemoen yesterday at Bhisho police station.

The men are expected to appear in King William's Town Magistrate's Court this week.

Mawillies Mbekile, 29, a near neighbour of the men, who was arrested on September 22, is still in police custody and is expected back in court on October 21.
