Lwazi Mvovo is not the Sharks' lucky charm, but in the time that he has made himself available for the defending champions, they have yet to lose in the Currie Cup.

For the Sharks to get past Western Province at Newlands on Saturday, Mvovo and his backline cohorts will have to weave their magic and outshine what has been a sparkling Province backline.

Being on the outer fringes of the Bok setup has seen Mvovo being pressed into black and white service, which has indirectly led to an upswing in form for the Sharks.

The team has a different proposition to deal with in the unassailable log leaders, Western Province, with Mvovo hoping the team will be able to ride the wave of momentum they have created in the past three weeks.

On three consecutive weekends, they have seen off the Blue Bulls, Eastern Province Kings and the Golden Lions.

"I think it is a team effort, because when I came back, the guys here were doing well, but the whole squad had to change its mentality and they had to work hard on achieving the goal of reaching the semifinals," Mvovo said.

"After the two losses against the Griquas and the Pumas, we realised that if we continued in that vein, we weren't going to get to the semifinals, so there was a mind shift from the players and the coaching staff.

"At this point in time it has worked very well."

Western Province have been without their jet-shoed magicians Cheslin Kolbe and Seabelo Senatla, but their counterattacking prowess has not been dimmed.

It proved to be their saviour against the Free State Cheetahs on Saturday when they made the most of turnover ball to win a match they had almost certainly thrown away.

The Sharks have capable counterattacking individuals, but they have not been used as regularly as Western Province's.

However, it would be in Allister Coetzee's interests not to pump the ball downfield aimlessly, especially with the Sharks' incremental improvement in keeping the ball.
