Comedian Loyiso Gola and his satirical television series Late Nite News have been nominated for an Emmy Award for the second consecutive year.

LNN was yesterday nominated alongside Australian show Please Like Me, Brazil's The Mayor's Wife and Belgium'sWat als 2?

Last year LNN and M-Net's Masterchef SA got the nod but neither won on the night.

Gola, who was shooting for the current season yesterday afternoon, said: "We've just got to be thankful for the validation and celebrate."

The funny man said he and the LNN team, which includes David Kibuuka, Chester Missing and Deep Fried Man, had resolved to "never change" and to "keep it relevant".

Deep Fried Man tweeted: "Well done to everyone I work with at @LateNiteNews, which just got another Emmy nomination :)."

He added: "The Emmys are a pretty big deal, right? Like, even bigger than the Naledis."

The nominees, 40 in 10 categories, span 19 countries, including the UK, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, France, Germany, and the US.

Three years ago local actress Lerato Moloisane was nominated for her role in SABC1's drama series Home Affairs.

SABC2's Hopeville was nominated in the TV movie/mini-series category. Neither won.

The 42nd International Emmys awards ceremony is on November 24 in New York and Gola promised he would make the trip to the US.

He is scheduled to play a on e-off, hour-long show at the Johannesburg Theatre on November 25 .

The show will be in the format of a State of the Nation speech.

Tickets cost between R130 and R160 at Computicket.
