Some of South Africa's top comedians are about to invade London, with the award-winning Cape Town Funny Festival setting up camp in the British capital from Thursday.
Marc Lottering, Siv Ngesi, Tumi Morake, Alan Committie, Nik Rabinowitz and Carl Waistie are hoping to keep audiences in stitches during the three-night show at the 1600-seater New Wimbledon Theatre.
The tour is a result of talks between organiser Eddy Cassar and a UK entertainment firm.
Lottering, who will be headlining the shows, said yesterday he was excited to be back in London for the second time this year.
"I'm always surprised at how I am able to survive there with that sort of exchange rate. A glass of wine ends up costing you about R150, so I hope the audience will enjoy the show so much they will offer to buy me drinks."
He said performing to an audience that is expected to be made up mostly of expatriates could be a catch-22.
"I can't use too much slang because there are foreigners in the audience, but the expats always want to hear the local language."
Cassar said the event was an opportunity to expose local talent to international audiences.
