My neighbour recently told me: "You're ruined."

Her statement had nothing to do with my personality, psyche or sexuality. She said it is because I am fat. There's a belief that humans have the right to tell overweight people whatever they please regarding their weight.

For too long, I've listened to lectures about being fat. I pretend not to be bothered by people's comments, but I know they are right.

I am fat - my mirror tells me this on a daily basis.

The journey I begin today has got more to do with what my body has been telling me than all these irrelevant people.

My rude awakening came last month when a Discovery wellness test revealed that my Vitality age is 14 years older than my actual age.

I've changed my diet, which mostly means cutting out the sugar.

And, from today, I'm taking part in the Adventure Boot Camp.

Adventure Boot Camp - held at various locations around the country - is a four-week outdoor fitness programme for women that includes core conditioning, short-distance running, muscular strength, jumping rope, circuit training, fitness kick boxing, Pilates, sports drills, obstacle courses and mat work.

I am excited by new adventure - and I will be doing it for me.
