Never before has so much been done to avoid the hassle and cost of changing a name on a travel ticket.

When the relationship broke down, Jordan Axani faced a dilemma about the holiday he had booked - with his ex-girlfriend - to Europe, the US and India.

So he opted to go to Reddit, the news aggregating website, to find another Canadian citizen called Elizabeth Gallagher, who could take the ticket in his ex-girlfriend's place.

The journey would involve several flights, he said, and "anyone familiar with the archaic system that is modern air travel will know that a name change on a ticket is damn near impossible."

He described himself as "a normal 28-year-old guy" and said he was "not looking for anything in return".

"The only thing I ask for is that you enjoy this trip and that it bring you happiness."

But unless your name is Elizabeth Gallagher and you have a Canadian passport, you need not apply.
