In an era obsessed with youth it is not surprising that so much time is devoted to fighting age.

But people could live to be 120 if they exercised more, ate healthily and took beneficial drugs such as statins, health experts and scientists have concluded.

Members of the Longevity Science Panel, set up to advise British policy-makers, predicted that, if people followed the advice of health experts, the average life span could rise from 80 to 84, with the healthiest individuals living to 120.
