The Grammy-nominated Irish pop rock band The Script landed straight into a traffic jam in Johannesburg yesterday ahead of their three-city tour in the country.

Drummer Glen Power posted a picture of several stationary vehicles with the caption: "Touchdown South Africa! Leaving the airport and I feel like I'm on the M50 at rush hour :-)"

The M50 in Dublin is said to be the busiest road in all of Ireland.

Supported by American Idol alumna Phillip Phillips, the band is performing in Johannesburg tomorrow, Durban on Friday, and Cape Town on Sunday.

The band, which has sold over 20 million records worldwide, shot the music video for their song, Superheroes, in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg, in July last year.

Phillips won the American Idol title in 2012, but last month lodged a petition with the California Labour Commissioner, saying his contractual agreement with the show's producers was "oppressive, fatally conflicted".
