Two men were arrested on Wednesday morning after allegedly hijacking a delivery truck transporting cigarettes in Cape Town, Western Cape police said.

The men, aged 28 and 32, were arrested in Pinelands, said Constable Noloyiso Rwexana.

They were expected to appear on a hijacking charge in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

On Monday morning, the men allegedly approached a truck driver delivering cigarettes to a Mowbray liquor store on the corner of Durban and Raapenberg roads.

The men apparently threatened the driver with a knife, forced him into his vehicle, and drove off with him.

They later off-loaded the cigarettes into a Toyota Conquest with false registration plates and fled.
