Johannesburg Metro Police said on Sunday that it had arrested 261 people for drunk driving in the city over the weekend.

The drivers were arrested at various road blocks, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.

"One drunken driver escaped from the Brixton police station when he told a female officer that he needed to use the toilet," he said.

Officers managed to track the man down in Pretoria where he was re-arrested.
