Britain's National Health Service is to send overweight doctors and nurses to slimming clinics.

The service staff needed to start "practising what we preach" and slim down before tackling the nation's unhealthy lifestyles, CEO Simon Stevens said.

A trial scheme at Britain's largest hospital will see thousands of overweight staff offered free Slimming World classes, while obese workers could also be offered help from psychologists and specialist dieticians.

If it works, the pilot scheme at Imperial College Healthcare trust will be offered nationally to all 700000 NHS workers who are estimated to be overweight.
