When 15-year old blind Jack Russel crossbreed Puppy went missing - his owners were afraid that he might have wandered into the nearby Mhlangeni informal settlement.

According to the Roodepoort Record, they needn't have, as Puppy was being well cared for in that very settlement.

The dog had been found when a neighbour of the man who took him in phoned the couple, who had put up posters asking for help finding Puppy.

“This man took such good care of my Puppy – my worst fear was that he would wander into an informal settlement and become emaciated or be hit by a vehicle but the opposite had happened," said owner Barbara Ann van Niekerk.

The couple have now wedged a piece of wood into their gate to avoid Puppy's next escape - “He has a naughty streak and this has not been affected by his lack of vision, believe me,” van Niekerk said.
