The M1 north and south double decker freeway would have two lanes blocked off on Sunday between 9am and 4pm for maintenance, Johannesburg metro police said.

Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said officers would be on duty to monitor the area.

Motorists are advised to avoid that section of freeway and use the M2, N1 or N3 as alternative routes, he said.
