Eskom to cut power supply to 20 non-paying municipalities from June 5

Eskom said on Friday it would cut bulk electricity supply to 20 municipalities which owe the cash-strapped utility 3.68 billion rand in unpaid power bills. "Non-payment for electricity undermines Eskom's statutory obligation to generate and supply electricity to municipalities nationally on a financially sustainable basis," the utility's acting chief executive Zethembe Khoza said in a statement.During the week the outages will be from 06h00 to 10h00, and 17h00 to 21h00.During the weekend they will be 07h00 to 10h00, and 17h00 to 20h00.The municipalities that will be cut off are:Maluti-a-Phofung MunicipalityMatjhabeng MunicipalityEmalahleni Local MunicipalityNgwathe Local MunicipalityThaba Chweu Local MunicipalityLekwa Local MunicipalityGovan Mbeki MunicipalityCity of Matlosana Local MunicipalityNaledi Local MunicipalityThabazimbi Local MunicipalityMsukaligwa Local MunicipalityLichtenburg MunicipalityNala Local MunicipalityMakana Local MunicipalityMadibeng Local MunicipalityRandfontein Local MunicipalityDihlabeng MunicipalityNketoana Local MunicipalityNama Khoi Local MunicipalityWestonaria Local Municipality..
