Unionists gather to march on treasury after 'arrogant' wage offer

Bus loads of unionists on Thursday began gathering in Marabastaad‚ Pretoria‚ in protest against Treasury's offer of a 5.8% wage increase and housing allowance of R1100. About 500 protesters clothed in union regalia had started to protest‚ with more arriving every minute.Unions say the offer of 5.8% is "arrogant".They were to march to the Department of Finance and Public Services and Treasury to demand a 10% increase in wages as well as R1500 in housing subsidies.The march comprises of the seven Cosatu public service unions of Denosa‚ Nehawu‚ Sama‚ Ppopcru‚ Sadtu‚ Sasawu and Pawusa‚ which represent about 1‚3-million public servants.A heavy police presence was on the scene‚ including members of the SAPS‚ Tshwane Metro Police Department and the Public Order Policing Unit.– The Times for RDM News Wire..
