Actress Terry Pheto is on her way to the 2015 Cannes Film Festival as the co-producer of the film Ayanda. In 2006, Pheto was unable to attend Cannes when her breakout role in Tsotsi was gathering praise because she was busy shooting the political thriller Catch a Fire.She said going to Cannes is all "about the experience".She added: "I'm really excited because it's also my first time as a producer."[Ayanda] is about a 21-year-old Afro hipster living in Yeoville. It's a coming-of-age story set in contemporary South Africa."With the recent xenophobic violence in South Africa, Pheto believes Ayanda is "a way to say sorry to our continent, to show people that the stories in the headlines are not who we are".Ayanda will screen on May 17. "I'm looking forward to the experience. It's all about networking, and hopefully bumping into George Clooney," she said, laughing.Actor and filmmaker Akin Omotoso is preparing to attend the festival to promote his latest film, Tell Me Sweet Something, a romantic comedy starring Nomzamo Mbatha and Maps Maponyane, set in Johannesburg."The film took five years to make and that includes development, fund-raising, shooting and editing. So to finally have it finished is a great feeling. We are working on my next film, so we are promoting that too," he said.Other South African films which made the grade include John Savage's Stone Cold Jane Austen, Kelsey Eagan's The Fix and Litha Booi's Firetown.The festival runs from May 13 to 22...
