‘Breakthrough’ in case of bodies dumped in Mthatha Dam

Three men suspected of murdering a young couple over the weekend and dumping their bodies in the Mthatha Dam were arrested late on Tuesday night. The bodies of Carl George and Jacqueline Miller‚ both 20‚ were found in the water by the police’s K9 Search and Rescue Unit at about 6:30pm on Sunday in the Mthatha Dam.Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela said that the arrest was a “breakthrough” in the double-murder case.“Three male suspects‚ aged between 19 and 22‚ were arrested last night at [11.30] by a task team consisting of local detectives and intelligence officers. The suspects were found in possession of vehicle keys and clothing items belonging to the victims‚” Fatyela said in a statement on Wednesday.All three suspects are due to appear in the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court on Thursday for charges relating to the couples’ murders.Police suspect that the couple were hijacked and their bodies dumped in the dam. The vehicle they were travelling in was found abandoned a short distance from where the bodies were located.Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Celiwe Binta expressed her satisfaction with the swift arrest of the suspects. - RDM News Wire, The Herald..
