End of the line for Pietersen?

England's newly appointed director of cricket, Andrew Strauss, said yesterday Kevin Pietersen was "not part of our plans for the summer". He said there was a "massive trust issue" between [the England Cricket Board] and the controversial batsman.Strauss stopped short of saying there was no way back into the international setup for Pietersen, adding: "He is not banned from the side, but I can give him no guarantees for the future."As Strauss was speaking, Pietersen, 326 not out overnight, took his score to an unbeaten 355 before Surrey lost their last wicket in a total of 557 against Leicestershire in a Second Division County Championship match at The Oval.Pietersen, 34, England cricket's all-time leading run-scorer across all forms of the game, was sent into international exile last year after the team's 5-0 Ashes thrashing in Australia. But he was given hope of an international recall when new ECB chairman Colin Graves said there could be a way back if he scored enough runs in county cricket.Yet just hours after he made his maiden first-class triple century for Surrey on Monday, Pietersen was told there was no prospect of his being selected by England in the immediate future - and in effect, that may mean the end of Pietersen's England career. As England captain, Strauss had his own issues of "trust" with Pietersen in 2012 when the star batsman sent "provocative" texts critical of his skipper to South African players. At his first press conference since being appointed, Strauss told Sky Sports: "No one is doubting his ability. But over months and years the trust between him and the ECB has eroded. There is a huge trust issue between Kevin and me."I saw him last night [Monday] and let him know he's not part of our summer plans. My job is to look to the future of English cricket; to develop a side able to win tournaments in the next four years," said Strauss. With Pietersen's England career seemingly over, UK betting house Paddy Power has opened a series of KP specials. The bookmaker is offering 33/1 for KP to join the Aussies as batting coach during the Ashes, a move that "would reduce England's chances against the Aussies this summer." Paddy also offers 16/1 for KP to release another autobiography this year, 50/1 for him to punch Strauss during the Ashes and 150/1 for Strauss to call Pietersen a "c..." live on TV (again) this summer. ..
