His first album may have been entitled The College Dropout, but Kanye West now has an honorary PhD. The rapper appeared in gown and hood for the annual commencement ceremony at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.And he even ditched his trademark scowl to grin broadly as he took the podium, poking fun at himself and his reputation for storming off stages and outspoken opinions.Dr West said: "I am a pop artist. So my medium is public opinion and the world is my canvas."You should not be sorry for your opinions!"He was not joined by his wife, Kim Kardashian, but she tweeted her excitement. "Dr. Kanye West!!!!!!! I'm so proud of you baby & I know your mom would be so proud too!!!!" her tweet said.The moment was clearly a matter of great pride to the 37-year-old performer. His late mother, Dondraw West, was chair of English at Chicago State University.Last year, West gave a guest lecture at Oxford University, where he said he would like to have studied fine art."My goal, if I was going to do fine art, would have been to become Picasso or greater," he said with typical bravado. ..
