Lots of hot air on smoking

The article "Aggressive passive smoking" (Friday) cannot go unchallenged. The sub-heading "How big tobacco still blows smoke in face of ad ban" is not supported in the report, which seems more of an attack on marketing generally.Writer Yolisa Mkele says that "in the world of marketing, rules are made to be flirted with" but offers no concrete support for this.The real issue is that South Africa allows the sale of smoking goods but almost no marketing thereof.If the state really believed that smoking is evil, these products should be banned. Its hypocritical stance leaves the companies who make these goods the ridiculous challenge of navigating between the lines...
