Masked men rob metro cops of guns in Langa attack

Two Cape Town metro police officers were robbed of firearms and cellphones at one of the city's most notorious smash-and-grab hotspots yesterday. Metro Police chief Wayne le Roux confirmed the incident, which happened just after 4pm at the intersection of Jakes Gerwel Drive and Washington Avenue, Langa."They were standing outside their patrol car. Three men with balaclavas emerged from the shacks and stuck guns in their backs," he said."They were made to lie on the ground and the men robbed them. Before they fled. they shot out the tyres of the patrol vehicle."Le Roux said the officers were not hurt. "They are severely shaken up and are receiving trauma counselling," he said.Police were at the scene last night looking for spent cartridges and other evidence.
