Lira on chasing her American dream

Afro-jazz singer Lira has set her sights on the small screen with her debut reality series, Dream Chaser USA. The seven-part series takes a look at the South African artist's US tour last year. From jet lag to setting up for the first show, the series provides an unapologetic raw look at the story behind Lira's American dream.Fans will get to see Lira as they have never seen her before. Though the Feel Good singer is a household name in South Africa and the rest of the continent, she has spent the last decade trying to gain international recognition.The series shows her going back to humble beginnings with small-scale productions - something she is not known for locally.Lira said: "The whole tour experience is humbling; it was intense and also really overwhelming at times."Idols SA judge and choreographer Somizi Mhlongo watched the first episode and applauded Lira. "This is the story behind the hustle. Beyoncé would never show us where she played hopscotch [for example]," he said.Lira said the series was a way of taking her fans with her."It really is exciting, I feel like I'm at the bottom of a huge mountain with the States and if I crack it there I can crack it anywhere," she said.Now, who will be the successful bidder for the show with local and international television networks all vying for the rights?..
