A 16-year-old boy believed to have been on a school trip from Lesotho was killed while travelling on a bus along Dick King Street in Durban on Thursday.

Robert Mckenzie of the KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services said that according to reports the boy "had his head out the window when the bus passed a pole on the side of the road. The pole reportedly struck the boy.

“Emergency services‚ including KZN Emergency Medical Services paramedics responded to the scene and found that the boy had sadly died.”

Another child‚ also a passenger on the bus‚ was treated but details of this child’s injuries and condition are not known.

“The scene has been cordoned off and the police are investigating the exact circumstances resulting in the child’s death.”
