Anti-crime operation in Eastern Cape nets 41 suspects

A crime-busting campaign called Operation Squeeze led to 41 arrests in the Mdantsane cluster this weekend for crimes ranging from drug dealing and drunken driving to rape and attempted murder. The suspects‚ aged between 20 and 48‚ were nabbed when police swooped down on drug dens and manned road blocks in precincts including Mdantsane‚ Cambridge‚ Vulindlela‚ Inyibiba‚ Berlin‚ Kei Mouth‚ Mooiplaas‚ Macleantown‚ Bluewater and Komga.In NU 1 police arrested a man for drug dealing and confiscated 12 mandrax tablets‚ arms of dagga and an undisclosed amount of cash.A suspected dagga dealer was also arrested in NU 2 and found in possession of 60 dagga ‘bompies’ (bags) and cash.Arrests for attempted murder‚ rape‚ drunken driving‚ armed robbery‚ assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm‚ house breaking and robbery‚ theft and contravening a protection order were also made.“This operation is meant to make sure that our communities are safe from crime‚ especially drugs‚” said acting Mdantsane cluster commander Brigadier Nomso Siganga. “We are working together with our communities to fight the scourge of drugs that are destroying our children.”The suspects will appear in the Mdantsane Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning...
