Doctors at the Nala District Hospital in Bothaville have allegedly not been paid for the past four months and have since gone on strike‚ AfriForum said on Monday.

“We reliably learnt that - in some instances - doctors were paid four months ago and that they do not know when to expect their next pay check. It’s shocking that specialists who deliver essential services are not getting paid.

“The disregard of the hospital is also infringing upon the community’s constitutional rights to health services‚” said Johann Hattingh‚ provincial co-ordinator for AfriForum in the Western Free State.

“The Labour Relations Act prohibits people who deliver essential services to take part in strike actions. It is‚ however‚ unreasonable to expect employees to work for months without getting paid.”
