Mandela Day as planned for Tutus

As retired archbishop Desmond Tutu fights an infection in hospital, his family's plans for Mandela Day are expected to go ahead as scheduled today. This is according to his daughter, Mpho Tutu, who said: "Waiting times at hospitals can be very long, so we are going to visit wards E and K at Groote Schuur Hospital to hand out food on the day before Mandela Day."She confirmed that her father had spent Tuesday and Wednesday night in an unnamed Cape Town hospital for an infection that was "below the belt" but "not related to his prostate".He had not responded well to oral medication and was now being given antibiotics intravenously."So many people have sent so much love and prayers and these are carrying us along," she said, adding that she had not had "the real space to worry" but that her mother had been feeling "anxious".Tutu is likely to stay in hospital for a few more days but the family is "confident" that he will recover, and confirmed that his prostate cancer was dormant.For the past 18 years, Tutu has been living with prostate cancer.Though the archbishop officially retired from public life five years ago, he has remained outspoken on national and global issues...
