“Implicated” officials have successfully appealed to Public Protector Thuli Madonsela to delay the release of her report on allegations of financial mismanagement‚ tender irregularities and appointment irregularities against the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA).

The report on the investigation was due to be released tomorrow (Thursday). The allegations were first received by her office in 2013.

Without naming names‚ her office said in a statement: “The decision to postpone comes after some of the implicated parties approached the Public Protector on Wednesday‚ July 22‚ 2015‚ requesting that she postpones the release of the report on the basis that they wished to make representations to her on issues that are central to the investigation”.

In the interests of fairness‚ she said‚ she had agreed to delay her briefing until Monday 3 August.

The rail parastatal has been in the news for all the wrong reasons recently. PRASA recently ousted its chief executive Lucky Montana and suspended the executive manager of engineering services in charge of the R3.5 billion locomotive deal after questions over his academic qualifications.
