Evening load shedding likely again

23 July 2015 - 12:31 By RDM News Wire

It looks likely that Thursday will see another bout of load shedding. Good morning. There is a low probability of load shedding this morning and high probability in the evening.— Eskom Hld SOC Ltd (@Eskom_SA) July 23, 2015asyncThis outlook has been of late‚ more often than not‚ followed by an announcement from the utility later in the day that it has had to resort to outages.A media statement on Eskom’s website on Thursday morning seemed to bear this out.“The power system is currently stable‚ and this will enable Eskom to perform maintenance without load shedding‚” it said optimistically‚ before adding: “However‚ the power system is expected to be constrained during the evening peak period (5pm– 9pm) mainly as a result of increased electricity demand and power station unit being on maintenance.“As we are currently experiencing cold weather conditions across the country‚ we urge electricity users to consider energy efficient ways of keeping warm.”Users might struggle to do this as temperatures are forecast to be in the low single digits for Friday and most of the weekend‚ with heavy rains predicted in parts of SA.The inevitability of load shedding after Eskom’s Twitter announcement was not lost on its followers.@Eskom_SA Congrats on getting the English right. So we can expect stage 1 at 5pm as usual?— Donn Edwards (@donnedwards) July 23, 2015asyncgrant stapleton ‏@MrRelion took the opportunity to congratulate utility on the reliability of it social media functionality: “@Eskom_SA HI Eskom great to see your computer generated message is still working”...
