'Suzaniel' just drills it

YouTube fame is no longer solely determined by speckled teenagers with unlimited data plans. Non-millennials have come to grips with the internet and given birth to their own milieu. Suzelle DIY videos rack up hundreds of thousands of YouTube views. Companies are catching on and the new Checkers "Suzaniel" advert is a case in point.The ad shows Suzelle arriving at a Checkers till with a drill and other items. This elicits a disapproving response from Nataniel, standing nearby, judging people's purchases.What follows is an amusing explanation of how the chain scours the globe to bring in quality products at good prices."Combining Nataniel and our home-grown internet phenom Suzelle on a single shopping trip for television was a perfect way to showcase our message," said Checkers marketing director Neil Schreuder."The ad attracted enormous attention; it got well over 200,000 views on Youtube in four days," added JC Smit of Checkers.Before Suzelle, Checkers had both Mandoza and Gordon Ramsay sharing the spotlight with Nataniel.Suzelle is different though, as she arrived by an unusual route - not having been plastered across TV screens before working with the brand .The advert has received positive feedback on social media, which shows that even you can have a say in popular culture."Like other brands, Checkers is embracing the digital revolution and going where our customers are.
