Claimants sign lease agreement with Mondi

Two groups of successful land claimants in KwaZulu-Natal have signed lease agreements with the forestry company‚ Mondi. The Nodunga group’s land is in the Stanger area and Mkhuzane’s in the Richmond region of the province‚ the KZN agriculture and rural development department said in a statement on Friday.The land claimed was owned by Mondi and used for commercial forestry. The lease agreement is for 10 years and subject for renewal.The Mkhuzane group consists of 247 households numbering 880 people and the Nodunga group is made up of 376 households with 2,256 members‚ according to agriculture and rural development MEC Cyril Xaba. He added that 35,000 hectares of land belonging to Mondi had so far been restored to claimants through the land restitution programme...
