SA soldiers aid shot Mozambican policeman

South African soldiers deployed along the country’s border with Mozambique last week aided a Mozambican policeman who is believed to have been shot by members of a syndicate smuggling contraband goods across the border‚ the South African National Defence Force disclosed. The incident occurred near the Lebombo border post on Friday evening just after one of the South African soldiers conducting a foot patrol in the area‚ a Rifleman Mathebula‚ had liaised with the Mozambican policeman through the fence.“As they parted ways‚ Rfn Mathebula heard pistol and AK-47 rifle shots being fired. He went to investigate and found the Mozambican Police member that he was talking too minutes before shot in his left foot. Rfn Mathebula contacted the Platoon Commander for assistance.South African Military Health Services personnel stabilised the member. The Platoon Commander took the initiative to take the injured police member to the South African side of the border where it was easier to transport him to the border post.“He was handed over to the Mozambican Police for further treatment. An AK-47 assault rifle was found at the scene whilst the South African soldiers were securing the area. The rifle and the police member’s boots and equipment were handed over to the Mozambican Police‚” the SANDF said in a statement...
