At least 15 people killed when minibus crashes onto railway track and struck by train

At least 15 people were killed when a minibus taxi crashed down an embankment on the N2 freeway onto a railway track and was then hit by an oncoming train near Shaka’s Head on the Kwazulu-Natal north coast on Monday afternoon‚ according to emergency medical rescue services in the province.

IPPS medical rescue service put the death-toll at 15‚ with one person critically injured and four people with moderate injuries. It said the remains of some the victims were still stuck in the wreckage.

“Body parts are also strewn across the scene‚” it added.

The taxi was carrying 20 people‚ it said. None of the passengers aboard the train was reported injured.
