KZN MEC urges hostel witnesses to speak up

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for transport, community safety and liaison Willies Mchunu asked yesterday for witnesses to come forward after the killing of a man at the notorious Glebelands hostel in Umlazi at the weekend. Police have confirmed that a man was shot dead on Sunday and an investigation was under way.There have been at least 40 deaths at the Glebelands hostel since last year.Mchunu expressed "great concerns" at the developments at the hostel, urging anyone with information that might lead to the arrests of those responsible to come forward.He said the killing was a "sad reminder that violence brings death, anger and hatred"."We believe that the current conflict at the hostel could be peacefully resolved through a meaningful dialogue. The department is available and ready to facilitate such a process," said Mchunu.Earlier this month, the DA called for eThekwini mayor James Nxumalo to liaise with Mchunu's office about establishing a commission to stem the tide of killings at the hostel...
